AI assistant¶
Describe the page or the change you want, in a sentence: the AI assistant of the site editor writes it with your tables, your fields and your languages. It produces the same templates you would write by hand — datasources, helpers, translations — so you can read, edit or undo everything it does.
Open the assistant¶
- Open your site in the editor.
- Click the AI assistant icon (sparkles) in the activity bar on the left.
- Type your request and press Enter (Shift + Enter for a new line), or pick one of the example requests.
While a generation runs, the site is read-only for everyone working on the project. When it is done, the assistant lists the files it created or changed, followed by its explanation: what it did, and anything you still need to do (for example, fill in a field).
What it knows before writing¶
- Your data: the tables of the project, their fields and their types (text, number, category, relation, file…).
- Your site: its pages, partials, stylesheets and translation files.
- Your languages: the texts it adds are translated into every language of the project.
- Your Methods: only the ones enabled on the site, with their exact inputs.
It never invents a table or a field: when something is missing, it says so in its answer instead of guessing.
Examples of requests¶
| You ask | It writes |
|---|---|
| Create the home page: a directory of my companies as cards, with their contacts | a page that loads the two tables and shows the contacts of each company (relations) |
| Create a dish detail page from the slug in the URL, and link each dish of the menu to it | views/dish.hbs with a slug datasource, and the links on the menu page |
| List all dishes, 4 per page, with Previous / Next links | a paginated list (pagination) |
| Create a page listing only the dishes cheaper than 10 €, sorted by price | a sorted list filtered with lt |
| Add an About page in English and French, and add it to the menu | the page, its translations, and the link in the header |
| Add a booking form on the contact page | a site form that adds an entry to the Bookings table for each request |
| Change the main title of the home page | a targeted change of that line only, in every language |
Precise requests give better results: name the page, the table and the fields you want to see.
Good to know¶
- Save your files first. The assistant works on the saved version of your site; it does not start while a file has unsaved changes.
- Every generation can be undone. A version of the site is saved just before each generation: go back to it from the Versions panel.
- Small changes stay small. To change a title or a section, the assistant edits only the lines concerned; the rest of the file is left as it was.
- Detail pages need slugs. The address of an entry (
/en/blog/my-article/) uses its slug, which you fill in the Studio. The assistant links to an entry only when it has one, and reminds you when slugs are needed. - Check the result in the preview. The assistant writes the code; it does not look at the rendered page. Open the preview after each generation.
- Complex logic belongs in a Method. Calculations or business rules are better done server-side, in a Method, that the assistant can then use in your pages.
When a page does not display¶
If a page cannot be rendered, the preview lists the errors, in plain words, with the file and the line concerned: an unknown helper (with the list of available ones), a missing partial, a syntax error (a block that is not closed…), an address whose entry is not found.
- Click the file:line link to open the file at that line.
- Click Fix with AI: the assistant opens with the request ready (error, file and line). Read it, then send it.
- Details shows the technical message.
On the public site, such a page answers "This page is temporarily unavailable" (an error 500, never cached), instead of a blank page.
Errors on your live site¶
When a visitor opens a page that cannot be displayed, Ekit keeps the error (the last 50, for 30 days). The site editor then shows a red "N error(s) on the live site" button in its header. It opens the list, with identical errors grouped together: the page concerned (click to open it), how many times and when it happened, the file and line to open, and Fix with AI. Once fixed, click Mark as resolved.
Limits¶
Each generation counts in your monthly quota: 15 (Free), 50 (Pro) or 250 (Team) generations per month. A request is limited to 4,000 characters; one generation runs at a time per site. A generation that fails before any change to your site (AI provider, Ekit, or an answer that cannot be applied) is not counted. Every request uses the same, most capable model; for a big redesign of several pages, the assistant rewrites the files concerned instead of editing them line by line. See Plans & limits.
