Custom Domain Setup

You can connect your own domain name (for example www.mysite.com) to your Ekit site.

The setup is simple and only takes a few minutes.
SSL (HTTPS) is automatic and free.

Available on the Pro and Team plans

Custom domains are included in the Pro and Team plans. On the Free plan, your sites are hosted on an Ekit subdomain. If you move to the Free plan, existing custom domains keep working for 30 days — see Plans & limits.

Your Ekit address

Every site is online right away at an Ekit address, on every plan: your-name.preview.ekit.app. It is the site's public address as long as no custom domain is connected.

  • New sites get a readable name from their title or project (for example my-bakery.preview.ekit.app).
  • Change it in the site settings (Sites → ⋯ → Site settings, section Custom domain): 3 to 40 characters, letters, numbers and hyphens; the Studio tells you right away if the name is available.
  • When you change the name, the previous name stops working. The technical address (template-….preview.ekit.app) keeps working and redirects to the current name.

1. Choose the domain to use

Use the domain with www:

www.mysite.com

💡 You can later redirect mysite.com → www.mysite.com.

Domain without www

mysite.com

Ekit connects the www form of your domain: the root domain (apex) does not support CNAME records at most providers. To make mysite.com lead to your site too, redirect it to https://www.mysite.com at your domain provider (see step 5). If you type mysite.com, the Studio offers to use www.mysite.com instead.

2. Connect the domain in Ekit

  1. Open Sites and click the pencil of your site (site settings).
  2. In Custom domain, type your address, for example www.mysite.com, and click Connect. The domain is saved on the site right away.
  3. The Studio shows the DNS record to create (step 3 below), with copy buttons, and checks it. Click Check again after changing your DNS.
  4. When the DNS is correct, click Activate: Ekit creates the HTTPS certificate and puts your site online at this address (about a minute).

The status at the top of the section tells you where you are: Not connected, Waiting for DNS, Ready to activate, Active. It is checked again every time you open the site settings. When the DNS is not ready yet, the Studio shows where your domain currently points, to help you fix the record.

A domain can be attached to one site only: a domain already used by another site is refused. Platform addresses (ekit.app and its subdomains) cannot be used. Remove detaches the domain from the site (you are asked to confirm when it is active).

3. DNS configuration (at your domain provider)

Log in to your domain provider (OVH, Gandi, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.).

Add a CNAME record:

DNS propagation may take a few minutes up to a few hours.

4. HTTPS / SSL

Once the DNS is correctly configured, click Activate:

  • Ekit generates an SSL certificate
  • Your site becomes available over HTTPS
  • Nothing else to do: renewal is automatic

5. Using the domain without www

Set a redirect at your domain provider:

mysite.com → https://www.mysite.com

Most providers offer it in their domain settings ("redirection", "web forwarding"). Visitors typing mysite.com then land on your site.

6. Common issues

The domain is not reachable yet

  • DNS propagation may still be in progress
  • Wait a few minutes and try again

"Waiting for DNS" stays displayed

  • Check the record: type CNAME, name www, value cname.ekit.app — the Studio shows where the domain points now
  • DNS propagation may still be in progress: come back later and click Check again

HTTPS does not work immediately

  • SSL generation may take 1–2 minutes
  • Refresh the page after activation

I see another website

  • Make sure the domain is activated in Ekit
  • Check that the CNAME points exactly to cname.ekit.app

"This domain is no longer served by Ekit"

The site's owner moved to the Free plan more than 30 days ago. The site is still online on its Ekit address; returning to the Pro or Team plan serves the custom domain again.
