Site analytics¶
Every Ekit site comes with built-in analytics: page views, visitors, top pages, sources and devices. There is nothing to install and no script to add to your pages. Visits are counted by Ekit's servers when they render your pages.
Open the analytics¶
- Open your site in the editor.
- Click the Analytics icon (chart) in the activity bar on the left.
- Choose the period: 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 12 months.
The screen shows:
| Item | What it means |
|---|---|
| Page views | pages displayed by visitors, including a page viewed again |
| Visitors | distinct visitors, counted per day (see How visitors are counted) |
| Pages per visitor | page views divided by visitors |
| Change | compared with the previous period of the same length, when your plan's history covers it |
| Chart | page views and visitors per day (per month over 12 months); hover a bar for the figures |
| Top pages | the most viewed pages, without their query string. On a multilingual site, the languages of a page are grouped on one line (/menu · 37 with EN 28 · FR 9; the home page is shown as Home). The Sections tab adds them up by the first part of the address (/blog, /features…). The 10 first rows are shown, Show all opens the full list |
| Sources | the website visitors came from (google.com, instagram.com…), or Direct (typed address, bookmark, app). Moving from one page of your site to another is not a source. Sources that are server addresses rather than websites (an IP address, or a server name containing one) are bots: they are grouped in Other |
| Devices | mobile, tablet or desktop |
Today's figures are updated live: the screen refreshes every minute while it is open, and the Refresh button updates it right away.
What is counted¶
A page view is counted when a page of your site is displayed at its public address: your custom domain, or the Ekit address of the site when it has no custom domain.
These are not counted:
- Studio previews (the preview panel of the editor);
- known bots and crawlers (search engines, link previews from social networks, monitoring tools, scripts);
- pages loaded in advance by the browser (prefetch), until they are actually displayed;
- missing pages (404) and errors;
- files: images, CSS, JavaScript, fonts.
Your own visits to your public site are counted like any other visit.
How visitors are counted¶
Ekit does not use cookies and does not store IP addresses. To tell visitors apart, it computes a fingerprint from the visitor's IP address, browser and the site, mixed with a random value that changes every day. The fingerprint is not stored: only an estimate of the number of distinct fingerprints is kept (accurate to about 1%).
As a result:
- a visitor who comes back the same day is counted once;
- the next day, the same visitor cannot be recognized and counts again. Over a period, Visitors is the sum of the daily visitors;
- visitors sharing the same internet connection and the same browser (an office, a school) may be counted as one.
Privacy¶
- No cookies and nothing stored in the visitor's browser.
- No IP addresses stored, and nothing that identifies a person: the daily random value is deleted after two days.
- No tracking across sites: each site is measured on its own, and only the site owner and the project collaborators can see its figures.
- Figures are kept for 13 months, then deleted.
You can describe this measurement in your site's legal notice or privacy policy, for example: "This site measures its audience without cookies: page views, sources and devices are counted anonymously by its host, Ekit."
History by plan¶
The analytics are available on every plan. The history you can view depends on the plan of the project owner:
| Free | Pro | Team | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Periods available | 7 days | up to 90 days | up to 12 months |
| Top pages | top 5 | top 50 | top 50 |
Figures are collected the same way on every plan: moving to a higher plan unlocks the history already collected, up to 13 months. Locked periods show a padlock and open the plans. See Plans & limits.
Limits¶
- No time spent on a page, no visitor journey, no screen size: these would require a script in your pages.
- Bot filtering is never perfect: a few automated visits may be counted.
- Up to 2,000 different addresses and 2,000 different sources are counted per site and per day; beyond that, new ones are grouped under Other.
- Countries are not available yet.
